Transfer rumor: Is Celtic keeper the future for Arsenal

Boruc I am quick to toss most transfer rumors into a pile, acknowledge they exist but never give them much more credit than being a written piece of speculation most likely to actually be rubbish.

But after Arsenal’s performance on Sunday, I happen to get a little tingly thinking about whether a particular rumor was true.

The People is reporting that Arsenal are interested in Celtic keeper Artur Boruc as Jens Lehmann’s replacement.

I know Arsene Wenger already has gone and brought in Lukasz Fabianski as a guy he’s looking to perhaps take over down the road but I think a look at Boruc is evident that there is a more pressing need at goalkeeper than perhaps we knew.

I have always liked Lehmann. Even with his hot-headed nature that sometimes got the club and himself in trouble. I thought he was talented despite his demeanor and he made a difference in many a game.

But one doesn’t need to look much further than the first minute of Arsenal’s match with Fulham on Sunday to know that Lehmann has become more dangerous on the pitch for his actions than his demeanor.

Sloppy play, being caught out of position and ill-advised challenges have become all too common for the German keeper. Perhaps Wenger has taken notice of this and has gone looking for a long-term replacement – that can start replacing now.

Or it just could be one of those rumors we never read about after today – but I’ll admit on this one – I’m intrigued.
