Celtic fan ruins the party for millions

Celtic FC defeated the European Champions 2-1 at Celtic Park on Wednesday.

Just letting you know that in case you missed it in all the other stuff that came from this match.

Yes, Celtic overcame AC Milan for yet another stunning victory for a Scottish side in the past month. The national team started it by defeated France 1-0 in a Euro 2008 qualifier. Then Rangers followed that up with an absolute stunning 3-0 win at Lyon on Tuesday. Then one day later, Celtic completed the remarkable trifecta with the win over Milan.

Only an idiot ruined it. Instead of unbridled celebrations and positive reviews in the press, Celtic fans were left embarrassed as one of their own disgraced the thousands and thousands of fans that cheered in a rocking stadium.

No this fan needed more, so he invaded the pitch, touched Milan keeper Dida and kept running towards the corner. Dida went after him before falling to the ground in an Oscar-worth performance (I say he should be fined too, you can read my thoughts on that incident here).

Instead, Celtic fans were left worrying about a harsh point deduction, forfeiture of the match and perhaps even European games played at neutral empty stadiums. All because of one fan who ruined it for everyone else.

It does appear that the Glasgow club will avoid those harshest penalties and instead suffer a hefty fine and strict probation.

I think that is a fair assessment by Uefa if that is what they chose to do – but nevertheless – this one fan ruined what could have been one hell of a party in Glasgow. And he’ll pay with a lifetime ban from Celtic games, but the damage he did already just doesn’t seem fair.

Celtic FC defeated the European Champions 2-1 at Celtic Park on Wednesday. If only the headline stopped there.
